Installing OMV8 on 64bit PC's - Alternate Scripted Method

Introduction

In the event that the standard OMV ISO installation fails, this process is an alternate install method to install Debian 13 - Trixie on 64 bit PC platforms. This installation is a two part process. After Debian Trixie is installed, Openmediavault (hereafter referred to as OMV) is installed by script.

Installing OMV8 on Armbian Trixie

Draft.

Revisions: N/A

Introduction

This guide applies to Single Board Computers (SBC's) other than the Raspberry PI. Due to the lack of the numerous SBC's that would be required for testing and integration, providing pre-built images for all Armbian supported SBC's, with Openmediavault (OMV) installed, is not possible.
However, installing OMV8 on Armbian supported SBC's is a relatively easy task. This document is a guide for that purpose.

Getting Started with Openmediavault 8

Version History:

First Draft: 12/28/2025

Introduction to Openmediavault

Openmediavault is a File Server / NAS system designed to work on modern 64-bit IBM compatible PC systems, to include Raspberry PI models 3B and later, along with select 64-bit ARM devices. Openmediavault can be thought of as filling a role similar to Microsoft's Server Essentials, but extends far beyond the role of a basic File Server with additional functionality added …
